Krishna Ashtami is the 8th lunar day (Tithi) of Krishna Paksha, the dark half of the lunar month. Its epithet is Dawandha Prada, "generates conflict", and its tutelary lord (Adhidevta) is Shiva (lord of destruction - a Hindu Triad).
Counted paksha by paksha, Krishna Ashtami is ruled by Vasu. It belongs to the Nandaadi group of Jaya Tithis, ruled by Mars, and in Krishna Paksha it is called Lakshmivati. By eye status Krishna Ashtami is a one-eyed (Kaana) Tithi.
Krishna Ashtami is a Parva Tithi. Krishna Ashtami becomes a Dagdha Tithi when the Sun is in Virgo. It is Maas Shunya in Chaitra and Falgun.
