Krishna Dwitiya is the 2nd lunar day (Tithi) of Krishna Paksha, the dark half of the lunar month. Its epithet is Mangala Prada, "augurs auspiciousness", and its tutelary lord (Adhidevta) is Brahma (God of creation - a Hindu Triad).
Counted paksha by paksha, Krishna Dwitiya is ruled by Vishnu. It belongs to the Nandaadi group of Bhadra Tithis, ruled by Mercury, and in Krishna Paksha it is called Bala & Khala. By eye status Krishna Dwitiya is a two-eyed Tithi.
Krishna Dwitiya becomes a Dagdha Tithi when the Sun is in Pisces or Libra. It is Maas Shunya in Ashvin and Kartika.
