Krishna Shashthi is the 6th lunar day (Tithi) of Krishna Paksha, the dark half of the lunar month. Its epithet is Yasha Prada, "fame giver", and its tutelary lord (Adhidevta) is Kartikeya (lord of valour).
Counted paksha by paksha, Krishna Shashthi is ruled by Kartikya. It belongs to the Nandaadi group of Nanda Tithis, ruled by Venus, and in Krishna Paksha it is called Vridhi-Karta, Mangalprada. By eye status Krishna Shashthi is a two-eyed Tithi.
Krishna Shashthi becomes a Dagdha Tithi when the Sun is in Gemini or Scorpio. It is Maas Shunya in Magha.
