Krishna Dwadashi is the 12th lunar day (Tithi) of Krishna Paksha, the dark half of the lunar month. Its epithet is Yasha Prada, "fame giver", and its tutelary lord (Adhidevta) is Vishnu (lord of preservation - a Hindu Triad).
Counted paksha by paksha, Krishna Dwadashi is ruled by Mruda. It belongs to the Nandaadi group of Bhadra Tithis, ruled by Mercury, and in Krishna Paksha it is called Bala & Khala. By eye status Krishna Dwadashi is a blind Tithi.
Krishna Dwadashi becomes a Dagdha Tithi when the Sun is in Aries or Capricorn. It is Maas Shunya in Vaishakha.
The 12th Tithi, ruled by Lord Vishnu, is described as supreme amongst all Tithis; it is said that "no day is better than Dwadashi Tithi".
