Where the boundaries actually fall
If your ascendant is at 20 degrees of a sign, the first house does not run from 0 to 30 of that sign. It runs from 5 degrees of that sign to 5 degrees of the next, because the lagna sits at its centre. Every other boundary follows at thirty-degree intervals from there.
This is why an ascendant near the middle of its sign produces few shifts, while one near 0 or 30 degrees produces many — the boundaries move furthest from the sign edges in the second case.
House 1 runs from the lagna minus 15 degrees to the lagna plus 15
A shift is not the only thing worth seeing
A graha half a degree inside its house did not shift, but it would have on a birth time a few minutes different. Reporting only the shifts hides how finely balanced the result is, so this page also lists the grahas that stayed put while sitting within five degrees of a boundary.
Which chart to use for what
- Sign-based judgements — dignity, exaltation, aspects, most yogas — belong to the D1. A shift in Chalit does not change a graha's sign or its strength in it.
- House-based questions — career, marriage, property — are where Chalit earns its place, because those depend on which house a graha actually operates in.
- When a slow transit is due to activate a house, the Chalit position is the more reliable one for timing.
