Panchang is a traditional Hindu calendar based on lunar and solar movements. The word 'Panchang' is derived from Sanskrit, meaning 'five limbs' (Pancha-Anga). It is used to identify auspicious days, planetary hours (Muhurat), festival dates, and fast timings to align daily life activities with cosmic frequencies.
The five limbs are: 1) Tithi (lunar day based on Moon's angle relative to the Sun), 2) Vara (weekday), 3) Nakshatra (the lunar mansion/constellation in which the Moon is located), 4) Yoga (astrological relationship between Sun & Moon positions), and 5) Karan (half of a Tithi). Each element holds custom energy and is used for specific ritual calculations.

However, their physical celebration often depends on whether a specific Tithi is active during Sunrise (Udayatithi) or Night (e.g. for Diwali/Karwa Chauth). Due to timezone variations, a Tithi may touch sunrise in India but end before sunrise in the US, causing a one-day shift.
Choghadiya is an auspicious/inauspicious division of a day, mostly popular in Western Indian states. A day is divided into day-time (Sunrise to Sunset) and night-time (Sunset to Sunrise), with each division having 8 equal segments ('Choghadiyas' of approx. 1.5 hours). These segments are categorized as Amrit, Shubh, Labh (Auspicious), Chal (Neutral), and Udveg, Rog, Kaal (Inauspicious).
