About Amrit Siddhi Yoga
What is Amrit Siddhi Yoga?
Amrit Siddhi Yoga (अमृत सिद्धि योग) is regarded as one of the most powerful auspicious combinations in the Vedic Panchang. “Amrit” means the nectar of immortality, and “Siddhi” means accomplishment — together signifying a window in which any auspicious task undertaken is believed to yield lasting, nectar-like success.
Astronomical Formation
Amrit Siddhi Yoga forms when the weekday (Vaara) and the Moon's Nakshatra match one of seven specific pairings: Sunday with Hasta, Monday with Mrigashira, Tuesday with Ashwini, Wednesday with Anuradha, Thursday with Pushya, Friday with Revati, or Saturday with Rohini.
Each of these seven Nakshatras also belongs to that same weekday's broader Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga list, so Amrit Siddhi Yoga is effectively the single strongest Nakshatra out of each day's Sarvartha Siddhi set — a more exacting, and therefore rarer and more potent, version of that yoga.
The Visha Yoga Exception
Classical Panchang texts carve out one important exception: on the same Vaara-Nakshatra pairing, if the prevailing Tithi also matches a specific “poison” Tithi assigned to that same day and Nakshatra, the combination is overridden by the inauspicious Visha Yogainstead of Amrit Siddhi Yoga. This is why the exact start and end time of the window — computed from your city's coordinates — matters, rather than just the date.
Recommended Uses & Considerations
Amrit Siddhi Yoga is traditionally favoured for spiritual initiations (Deeksha), long journeys, signing agreements, laying foundation stones, starting education or a new profession, and other significant beginnings. As with any Panchang yoga, it is worth cross-checking against Rahu Kalam and other localized inauspicious muhurats before finalizing a plan, and always verifying the Visha Yoga exception window for your date.
