What is Choghadiya?
Choghadiya (चौघड़िया) is a classical Vedic time-selection system used to find auspicious Muhurats for travel, business inaugurations, financial transactions, and important daily tasks. The word “Choghadiya” originates from “Cho” (four) and “Ghadi” (a traditional Indian time unit of ~24 minutes), meaning a 4-Ghadi time window (~96 minutes / 1.5 hours).
The 7 Types of Choghadiya
- Amrit (Best - Nectar): Ruled by the Moon. Highly auspicious for all kinds of work, travel, and religious rituals.
- Shubh (Good): Ruled by Jupiter. Favorable for ceremonies, marriage rituals, and auspicious beginnings.
- Laabh (Gain): Ruled by Mercury. Excellent for business, shopping, commercial deals, and financial investments.
- Char (Neutral - Moving): Ruled by Venus. Ideal for travel, transport, and tasks involving movement.
- Kaal (Loss): Ruled by Saturn. Inauspicious period; wealth accumulation and major tasks should be avoided.
- Roga (Disease): Ruled by Mars. Inauspicious window; health or legal tasks started now face obstacles.
- Udwega (Anxiety): Ruled by Sun. Inauspicious period causing tension and delays.
