Raksha Bandhan

About Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan, celebrated on the full moon day in Shravana, honours the sacred bond between brothers and sisters. Raksha means protection and Bandhan means bond.

In Gujarat, sisters tie a sacred thread (rakhi) on their brothers wrists, praying for protection and well-being. Brothers pledge to protect their sisters and offer gifts.

The festival is rooted in the legend of Yamuna and Yama, and also Draupadi tying a cloth strip on Krishnas wrist. It celebrates the sibling bond.
