About Guru Govind Singh Jayanti

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, celebrates the Prakash Parva (birth anniversary) of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth and last human Sikh Guru. Born in 1666 in Patna, Bihar, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was a spiritual master, warrior-poet, and the founder of the Khalsa Panth in 1699. His life exemplified unwavering courage, spiritual discipline, and the eternal fight against tyranny and injustice.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji transformed Sikh identity by instituting the Amrit Sanchar ceremony, giving Sikhs the five Kakaars (Kesh, Kara, Kanga, Kachera, Kirpan), and establishing the Khalsa as a collective body committed to righteousness. He also declared the Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal Guru before his passing, ensuring that divine guidance would remain accessible to all Sikhs.

His literary contributions, including the Jaap Sahib, Tav-Prasad Savaiye, and parts of the Dasam Granth, are treasures of spiritual poetry and philosophy. On his Jayanti, Gurdwaras are illuminated, Nagar Kirtans fill the streets, and communities come together in prayer, Seva (selfless service), and Langar (community kitchen), reflecting the Guru's teachings of equality and devotion.
