About Narada Jayanti

Narada Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of Devarshi Narada, one of the most celebrated sages in Hindu tradition and a supreme devotee of Lord Vishnu. Known as the divine messenger and celestial musician, Narada travels across the three worlds spreading the name of Hari, dispelling ignorance, and guiding souls toward devotion.

Narada is regarded as a Manasa Putra (mind-born son) of Lord Brahma and is credited with the invention of the Veena, the divine lute. His constant chanting of 'Narayana, Narayana' serves as a reminder that the divine name is the simplest path to liberation. He is also the author of the Narada Bhakti Sutras, a foundational text on devotional love.

Although often depicted as a mischief-maker who stirs conflicts among gods and demons, Narada's interventions are ultimately meant to teach profound spiritual lessons. His actions reveal the ego of the proud, awaken devotion in the ignorant, and establish righteousness through divine play.

Narada Jayanti is observed with special Puja, recitation of Vishnu Sahasranama, devotional singing, and the feeding of scholars and Brahmins. It is an ideal day for those seeking to deepen their Bhakti, improve communication, and spread harmony through sacred speech.

Vrat Katha: The Birth of Devarshi Narada

In a previous birth, Narada was born as the son of a maidservant who served devoted Brahmins. From childhood, he was drawn to the stories and songs of Lord Vishnu.

During a monsoon retreat, young Narada stayed with a group of saints who taught him the glories of devotional service. He absorbed their teachings and developed intense love for the Lord.

One day, while meditating under a tree, Lord Vishnu appeared before him and blessed him. Although the vision vanished quickly, Narada was transformed forever.

In his next birth, he was born as the mind-born son of Brahma and became the immortal sage Narada, forever singing the name of Narayana and guiding souls toward divine love.
