About Dipmalika
Dipmalika, the third day of the Tihar festival, is the main day of lights celebrated in the month of Kartik (October-November). The name literally means 'row of lights'.
Homes and streets are illuminated with thousands of oil lamps (diyas), candles, and electric lights. Families perform Lakshmi Puja, seeking the blessings of the goddess of wealth.
The night is marked by fireworks, feasting, and the singing of deusi-bhailo songs, a traditional form of group singing and dancing that goes from house to house.
Dipmalika celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, and is one of the most visually spectacular festivals in Nepal.
