About Dhanteras

Dhanteras is celebrated two days before Dipavali, on the thirteenth day of the dark fortnight in Kartik month (October-November). It marks the beginning of Dipavali and is dedicated to Lord Dhanvantari.

In Odisha, families clean and decorate homes, light earthen lamps, and make purchases of gold, silver, or utensils as buying on this day is considered highly auspicious. Lord Dhanvantari is worshipped.

The festival is marked by elaborate Lakshmi-Dhanvantari pujas, where families pray for good health and prosperity. Traditional sweets and dishes are prepared as offerings.

In the evening, homes are illuminated with earthen lamps, and families gather for prayers and festive meals. The warmth of diyas creates a magical atmosphere.
