About Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji Prakasha Parva Tithi

Prakasha Parva celebrates the birth of Guru Angad Dev Ji (1504–1552), the second Sikh Guru, who was born in the village of Hari Naga (now in Pakistan). He is remembered for his immense contributions to the Sikh faith, particularly the development and standardisation of the Gurmukhi script, which became the medium for writing the Sikh scriptures and remains the script of the Punjabi language to this day.

Guru Angad Dev Ji was chosen by Guru Nanak Dev Ji as his successor, and he faithfully carried forward the Guru's mission. He established the system of Masands (representatives) to spread the Sikh message, institutionalised the langar (community kitchen), and promoted physical fitness through the establishment of wrestling akharas (gyms). He also compiled the writings of Guru Nanak and added his own compositions to the growing body of Sikh scripture.

On Prakasha Parva, Gurdwaras hold special prayers, Akhand Path, kirtan, and langar. Devotees reflect on Guru Angad Dev Ji's contributions to the Sikh faith, particularly his gift of the Gurmukhi script, which made the Guru's teachings accessible to all people regardless of their literacy in Sanskrit or Arabic. The day is celebrated with great devotion and communal participation.
