About Sri Guru Govind Singh Ji Guru Gaddi Tithi
Guru Gaddi Tithi celebrates the day when Guru Gobind Singh Ji was formally installed as the tenth Sikh Guru following the martyrdom of his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, in 1675. At the age of nine, the young Gobind Rai received the Guruship and the immense responsibility of leading the Sikh community during one of its most challenging periods.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji's installation as Guru marked the beginning of a transformative era. Despite his youth, he immediately took on the mantle of leadership with extraordinary courage and wisdom. He would go on to create the Khalsa, fight numerous battles against Mughal oppression, compose profound spiritual poetry, and ultimately establish the Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal Guru. His installation was the beginning of the final chapter in the human Guruship.
On Guru Gaddi Tithi, Gurdwaras hold special prayers and kirtan. Devotees reflect on the divine selection of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the extraordinary destiny that awaited him — the creation of the Khalsa, his sacrifice, and his establishment of the eternal Guruship of the Guru Granth Sahib.
