Sri Guru Hargovind Ji Jyoti Jyota Samai Tithi

Jyoti Jyota Samai commemorates the physical departure of Guru Hargovind Ji in 1644 at Kiratpur Sahib (now in Punjab, India). He had served as the sixth Sikh Guru for approximately fifty years, during which he fundamentally transformed Sikhism by combining spiritual and temporal authority and establishing the Akal Takht.

Guru Hargovind Ji's passing marked the end of an era that had seen Sikhism evolve from a peaceful spiritual movement into a community capable of defending its faith and principles. His legacy of Miri-Piri continued to guide the subsequent Gurus, who maintained both spiritual and temporal leadership. The light passed to his grandson, Guru Har Rai Ji.

The day is observed with prayers, kirtan, and readings from the Guru Granth Sahib. Devotees reflect on Guru Hargovind Ji's revolutionary contributions and his establishment of the martial tradition that would define the Khalsa. The observance is a celebration of the courage and vision that shaped the Sikh community.
