Chandra Bala vs Tara Bala

Both use the same nine-fold count. Chandra Bala applies it to the Moon only — which is why it needs nothing but your birth star, and why it changes roughly every twenty-four hours as the Moon moves on. Tara Bala applies the same count to all nine planets, which needs a full chart.

The Moon's Tara is identical for everyone born under the same star on the same day. How strongly it lands depends on the planetary period you are running, which is a separate reading from your Janam Kundali.

About Chandra Bala

What is Chandra Bala?

Chandra Bala (चन्द्र बल), literally “Moon strength,” is a traditional Muhurta check that reads today's position of the transiting Moon against your birth star (Janma Nakshatra). It is one of the most frequently consulted daily readings in Vedic astrology because, unlike most planetary analysis, it needs nothing but your birth star — no birth time or place is required — and it changes roughly once a day as the Moon moves from one Nakshatra to the next.

How It Is Calculated

The reading is based on the classical nine-fold Tara cycle. Counting forward from your birth Nakshatra to the Nakshatra the Moon currently occupies (inclusive), the count is reduced modulo nine to arrive at one of nine Taras — Janma, Sampat, Vipat, Kshema, Pratyari, Sadhaka, Naidhana, Mitra, and Parama Mitra. Each Tara carries a traditional quality: Sampat, Kshema, Sadhaka, Mitra, and Parama Mitra are considered auspicious; Vipat, Pratyari, and Naidhana are considered inauspicious; and Janma (the birth Tara itself) is treated as neutral, its outcome depending more on the specific activity than on the Tara alone.

This calculator continuously tracks the Moon's Nakshatra transitions for the year so it can show your Chandra Bala right now, the moment the Moon next changes Nakshatra, and a seven-day forecast — each day's reading sampled around local midday so an overnight Nakshatra change is attributed sensibly.

Significance in Muhurta

Because the Moon governs the mind and emotional disposition, its daily relationship with your birth star is traditionally used as a quick, no-fuss favourability check before travel, starting new work, or other day-to-day decisions — a lighter-weight companion to full Muhurta analysis. It is one input among several: Tithi, Nakshatra of the day, Yoga, Karan, and the planetary period (Dasha) you are running all factor into a complete Muhurta assessment.

Chandra Bala vs Tara Bala

Chandra Bala applies the nine-fold Tara count to the Moon alone, which is why it is fast to check and identical for everyone born under the same star on a given day. Tara Bala extends the same counting method to all nine planets — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu — giving a fuller, more individualized picture, but it requires your complete birth chart. This tool is intended as a traditional, informational reference rather than a substitute for personalized guidance from a qualified astrologer.
