✨Panch Mahapurusha Yogas

Five great-person yogas — one per planet, in kendra and dignified

Panch MahapurushaMars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or SaturnEach is individually uncommon

—

What is Panch Mahapurusha Yogas?

The five Mahapurusha yogas each form the same way: one of the five non-luminary planets sits in its own sign or exaltation, in a kendra from the Lagna. Ruchaka comes from Mars, Bhadra from Mercury, Hamsa from Jupiter, Malavya from Venus and Sasa from Saturn. Each shapes personality strongly in the character of its planet — which is why classical texts describe them as producing a "great person" of a particular type rather than generic good fortune.

Present — But Is It Powerful?

Three things separate a paper yoga from a life-changing one.

🏛️

Dignity

Is the forming planet strong?

A yoga whose key planet is exalted or in its own sign delivers fully. The same yoga with a debilitated or combust planet is a paper yoga — technically present, functionally silent.

⏳

Dasha Timing

When does the relevant Mahadasha arrive?

A yoga delivers during the Mahadasha or Antardasha of the planets forming it. A flawless Raj Yoga whose dasha arrives at 85 has limited practical impact on the life actually lived.

🔭

Aspects

What modifies it?

Benefic aspects from Jupiter or Venus strengthen a yoga; malefic aspects from Saturn, Mars or Rahu weaken or distort it. Combustion by the Sun significantly diminishes a yoga's potential.

Takeaway: It is not how many yogas you have — it is how strong each one is. One powerful yoga with the right dasha timing outweighs ten weak ones.

When does this yoga deliver?

A yoga delivers primarily during the Mahadasha or Antardasha of the planets that form it. Outside those windows it remains in the chart but is rarely active in daily life.

Mahadasha of whichever planet forms the yoga

Panch Mahapurusha Yogas — FAQ

Can one chart have more than one Mahapurusha yoga?

Yes, though it is uncommon. Each requires a different planet to be simultaneously dignified and in a kendra, so having two or more is a genuinely notable configuration.

Why are the Sun and Moon excluded?

The classical scheme is built on the five tara grahas (star planets). The luminaries are treated separately in Jyotish and are not part of the Mahapurusha framework.
