About Kalki Jayanti

Kalki Jayanti commemorates the expected future incarnation of Lord Vishnu as Kalki, the tenth and final Avatar who is prophesied to appear at the end of the current age (Kali Yuga) to restore righteousness (Dharma) and usher in a new golden age (Satya Yuga). According to Hindu scriptures, particularly the Puranas, Kalki will be born to a Brahmin named Vishnuyashya in the village of Shambhala and will ride a white horse named Devadatta, wielding a blazing sword to destroy evil and ignorance.

The concept of Kalki is deeply rooted in the cyclical understanding of time in Hindu cosmology. Each cosmic cycle consists of four Yugas: Satya, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali. The present Kali Yuga is characterized by moral decline, materialism, and spiritual darkness. Kalki's arrival symbolizes the ultimate triumph of good over evil and the renewal of cosmic order, offering hope to devotees that divine justice will prevail.

Kalki Jayanti is observed with prayers, fasting, reading of scriptures, and meditation on Lord Vishnu. Devotees reflect on the impermanence of the material world and the importance of leading a righteous life. The festival serves as a spiritual reminder to cultivate virtues such as truth, compassion, self-discipline, and devotion in preparation for the divine transformation of the world.

Vrat Vidhi & Fasting Rules

Kalki Jayanti is observed by worshipping Lord Vishnu, reading scriptures, fasting, and meditating on the future Avatar.

Step-by-Step Fasting Procedures:
  • Wake up early, take a bath, and create a clean, serene Puja space.
  • Worship an image or idol of Lord Vishnu, offering flowers, Tulsi leaves, incense, and lamps.
  • Observe a fast, consuming only fruits and milk, or take a single sattvic meal.
  • Read or listen to passages from the Bhagavata Purana and Vishnu Purana describing the Kalki Avatar.
  • Chant Vishnu Sahasranama and the Kalki Stotra if available.
  • Meditate on the qualities of righteousness and resolve to live a life aligned with Dharma.
