About Vijayadashami
Dussehra marks the phenomenal triumph of good over evil. It signifies two massive victories: Lord Rama defeating Ravana, and Goddess Durga annihilating Mahishasura.
Vrat Vidhi & Fasting Rules
Celebrations range from the immersion of Durga idols to the burning of Ravana effigies.
- In Bengal, married women perform 'Sindoor Khela' before immersing the Durga idol in the river (Visarjan).
- In North India, Ramlila concludes with the burning of towering effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghanada at sunset.
