What is Kemdrum Dosha?

Kemdrum Dosha forms when no planet occupies the houses immediately on either side of the Moon — the 2nd and the 12th from it — leaving the Moon without support. Classical texts associate it with financial ups and downs and a sense of standing alone. Crucially, it is also the dosha most often cancelled: a single planet in a kendra is enough to dissolve it, which is why most charts that technically form it do not carry it.

How this page detects it

The 12th, 1st and 2nd houses from the Moon are checked for any of the six non-nodal planets. If all three are empty the dosha forms — and Kendra Bhang is then checked: a planet in a kendra from the Ascendant or from the Moon reduces it to nominal.

How often is Kemdrum Dosha actually cancelled?

Very often. A single planet in a kendra — from the Ascendant or from the Moon — is enough for Kendra Bhang, and most charts have that. This is why the raw formation rate and the meaningful rate differ so widely.

Are Rahu and Ketu counted when checking around the Moon?

Classical practice generally excludes the nodes, since they are shadow points rather than planets that can offer the Moon support. This page follows that convention and checks only the six non-nodal grahas.
