Drekkana Chart (D-3) Calculator

Siblings, courage and inner drive

The Drekkana chart is the third divisional chart, primarily used to study siblings, courage and the native's capacity for effort and valour — territory linked to the 3rd house of the birth chart. Each rashi's three 10° slices are ruled, in order, by the sign itself, the 5th sign from it, and the 9th sign from it.

Each rashi is split into 3 equal parts of 10° each.

How to Read It

Look at the 3rd house and its lord in D-3 for the number and nature of siblings. Mars and the Sun placed strongly in D-3 support raw courage and initiative; afflictions here often show as friction with co-borns or a struggle to assert oneself.

Drekkana Chart (D-3) Calculator — FAQ

Does the Drekkana chart show the exact number of siblings?

It indicates the likelihood, relative strength and nature of siblings rather than an exact count — classical practice combines D-3 with the 3rd and 11th houses of D-1 (elder and younger siblings respectively) for a fuller picture.

Why is Drekkana linked to courage rather than just siblings?

In Parashari astrology the 3rd house governs both siblings and personal valour/effort, so its divisional chart inherited both meanings — a strong D-3 Mars, for instance, is read for physical courage as often as for sibling relationships.

Is there more than one Drekkana scheme?

Yes — Parashara describes a standard Drekkana as well as variants like Somanatha's and Jagannatha's Drekkana. This calculator uses the standard Parashari Drekkana, the most widely used version.
