Saptamsa Chart (D-7) Calculator

Children, progeny and legacy

The Saptamsa is the seventh divisional chart, the primary tool for judging children, fertility and one's legacy through progeny — the domain of the 5th house. Odd signs count their seven parts starting from the sign itself; even signs start counting from the 7th sign from it.

How to Read It

Examine the 5th house and Jupiter (the natural karaka for children) in D-7. Benefics in the 5th of D-7 favour ease in conceiving and a supportive relationship with children; heavy affliction there is one of several classical indicators considered alongside medical factors, never a standalone diagnosis.

Saptamsa Chart (D-7) Calculator — FAQ

Is the Saptamsa chart used only to predict children, or also to time them?

Both — the placements are read for likelihood and nature of progeny, while Dasha and transit analysis over the D-7 5th lord and Jupiter is used to estimate favourable periods, alongside the same analysis on the D-1 chart.

Why does the counting direction change between odd and even signs?

This alternating rule (odd signs count forward from themselves, even signs from the 7th) is specified in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and is unique to the Saptamsa among the divisional charts — it keeps the scheme symmetric across the zodiac.

Should Saptamsa be combined with the 5th house of the birth chart?

Yes, always. D-7 refines what the D-1 5th house already promises; neither is read in isolation for matters of children in serious classical practice.
