About Parashurama Jayanti
Parashurama Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and one of the most formidable warrior-sages in Hindu tradition. Born as Rama, the son of the pious sage Jamadagni and his devoted wife Renuka, he earned the name Parashurama—'Rama with the axe' (Parashu)—after receiving a divine axe from Lord Shiva.
Parashurama is unique among Vishnu's avatars because he is one of the seven Chiranjivis (immortals) believed to still reside on Earth. He represents the fierce aspect of divine justice that destroys corrupt Kshatriya rulers who had abandoned Dharma, and he is also revered as the founder of many martial and spiritual traditions, including Kalaripayattu.
Despite his warrior nature, Parashurama was a great sage and teacher. He was the guru of Bhishma, Dronacharya, and Karna, imparting both warfare and sacred knowledge. He is also associated with reclaiming land from the sea along the western coast of India, including Kerala and Konkan, making him a cultural hero in these regions.
Parashurama Jayanti falls on the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Vaishakha month. Devotees observe fasts, perform Puja, and seek his blessings for courage, strength, justice, and protection from tyranny. The day is especially significant for warriors, students, and those seeking to uphold righteousness.

Vrat Katha: The Birth and Mission of Parashurama
Sage Jamadagni and his wife Renuka performed severe penance to please Lord Vishnu, seeking a son who would protect Dharma on Earth.
Vishnu appeared before them and promised to be born as their son. Thus, Rama was born, endowed with divine strength and radiant wisdom.
As a young man, he pleased Lord Shiva through intense penance and received a powerful battle-axe (Parashu) and knowledge of warfare. He became known as Parashurama.
When a wicked king named Kartavirya Arjuna killed his father and stole their sacred cow, Parashurama vowed to rid the earth of corrupt Kshatriya rulers who had abandoned righteousness, fulfilling his divine mission as the sixth avatar.
